End of a century

Ok - maybe not the end of a century. But it is the end of my Christmas holidays. I’m back to work on Monday. Which is a shame as I don’t feel I have done anywhere near enough work for the coming term. Oh well. We shall see.

Anyway - as is always the case with blogs I have decided to write a new post when I actually have nothing interesting to say. Sorry about that. So in an attempt to pretend this post had a purpose I am going to ask you to create a top 5. I think we may have done this before. But I don’t care.

Seeing as it is the height of Summer, I thought it would be good to do a top 5 songs to listen to while walking around on a Summer’s day. Here’s mine:

  1. Counting Crows - Einstein on the Beach
  2. Bedouin Soundclash - When the Night Feels My Song
  3. Baha Men - Back to the Island (Ros and Susie’s fault!)
  4. Happy Day - Tim Hughes (I didn’t buy it ‘cos of the Facebook group)
  5. Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn

No reason for them - I just smile when they come on the iPod.

  1. Ros says:

A classic choice at number 3.

  2. Susie says:

I agree Ros. Nice one Andy.

I am now back in Hull, Christmas is just a distant memory. I will give my top 5 summers day songs some proper thought when I get chance, but for now I would like to say I am currently listening to ‘Up On The Ladder’ from disk 2 of InRainbows by Radiohead, and it has a great line in it that goes a little something like this “I’am stuck in a TARDIS, trapped in Hyperspace”. Any Radiohead song that has a Doctor Who reference in it must be a winner!

  4. Mat says:

    1. Sunday Shining - Finley Quaye
    2. Even After All - Finley Quaye
    3. Where I wanna be - Shade Sheist
    4. Everyday - Dave Matthews Band
    e) Clarity - John Mayer

Same reasoning as Andy - I just like them on the ipod, and they’re all very summery!

Jonny - I should probably ask this on the other thread, but are you happy with your wash? And Sky Broadband? I can get that for free (or cheap for the faster speed), but I’ve only really heard bad things about. I believe i’m in a good internet area, so it might be ok, but just wanted to know your thoughts. I’m probably not getting the PS3. : (

  5. Andy says:

    Everyday was my number F.

  6. Gloria says:

    1. Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows (although to be fair, any Crows song would do).
    2. Bic Runga - Listening for the Weather (reminds me of New Zealand).
    3. Do Your Thing - Basement Jaxx (just summery cos the video’s set in a park. And it’s one of the best videos I’ve ever seen).
    4. Wendell Gee - REM (had a hard time just picking one REM song, too, but this is my all-time favourite and always makes me smile).
    5. John Mayer - Your Body is a Wonderland (beautiful song and, as Bic, reminds me of New Zealand, which as we all know is always sunny and never rainy…).

Doing this makes me feel like I’m in High Fidelity, although I don’t think Rob, Dick or Barry would be too impressed with my choices.

  7. Gloria says:

I’ve just realised the gross inconsistency in whether I put the song title or the band/artist first in my previous post. Now I’m annoyed.

  8. Pete says:

This is tricky-so may to choose from

    1.Walk on-U2
    2.Crazy little thing called love-Queen
    3.Sunshine of your love-Cream
    4.I Did It-Dave Mathews
    5.All Right Now-Free

Not sure if these are in order

  9. Kate says:

    1. Take Me to the Clouds Above - LMC vs U2
    2. Starry Eyed Surprise - Paul Oakenfold
    3. Stoned in Love - Tom Jones and Chicane
    4. Somebudy Told Me - Killers
    5. St Elmo’s Fire - John Parr

    Eclectic I think…

  10. Jack says:

    American Girls - Counting Crows
    Constellations - Jack Johnson
Gospel Song #54 - Five Small Ponies
What A Beautiful Day - The Levellers
Adagio In G Minor - Albinoni

Not really sure the last one qualifies as a song, more a piece of music, but what the hey!
Also, Kate, good use of the word eclectic.
    Liked it.

  11. Ros says:

    1.Shine - Take That
    2.Hangin around - Counting Crows
    3.Diamond Road - Sheryl Crow
    4.Don’t stop movin’ - S Club
5.Baywatch theme tune - The Hoff

    Brilliant.

  12. Gloria says:

Starry-eyed surprise was a good call.
I actually agree wihth most of the suggestions that have been made and I feel like there were lots more songs I didn’t even think about. I think there is too much music in the world to just pick 5 songs.

  13. Pete says:

This evening I have found myself listening to lots of Beatles stuff, They have lots of songs that could be in the list.

  14. Laura says:

    Holiday-Madonna
S CLub- Two in a million
    SWV-Right here
Marvin Gaye - Sitting on the dock of the bay
    Gypsy Kings- Bamboleo

  15. Jonny Evans says:

    This is tough:

Have a nice day - Stereophonics
    Whippin Piccadilly - Gomez
I committed murder - Macy Gray
    Lilac Wine - Jeff Buckley
    Underground - Ben Folds Five

(altho - I’m certain I’ll change my mind immediately after posting this… ooh… what about REM - Daysleeper or White Stripes - Seven Nation Army…)

  16. Laura says:

Jonny Id feel like Id have to march across a beach to seven nation army. How are u by the way?

  17. Jonny Evans says:

    Feeling better thanks…

Yeah… Seven Nation Army would be good for a bit of beach marching
