The Piano
No - I’m not going to talk about a terrible film that involves very little talking and has nothing actually happen. Actually - I am going to talk about a film that involves very little talking and has nothing actually happen. But it’s not terrible.
Those of you involved in schools (and maybe those not) may have heard of the Primary Frameworks - they are the things that tell us what we have to teach in literacy and numeracy (English and maths). This morning I heard some piano music coming from Class 4 so I went to investigate. The teacher in there (let’s say we call her Lara so that you don’t actually know if that is her name or not and then if she would rather remain anon e mousse then she can…) was watching a short animated film called The Piano. It’s a suggested resource for one of the units of work for year 5. It’s very good. It’s by a guy called Aidan Gibbons. I thought I would share it with you.

That’s beautiful. I looked quickly at his site to see who he was. He works for the Mill, who I do believe do all the Dr Who CGI. Therefore I like him even more. Also, I liked The Piano. As in, the Jane Cappuccino or whatever her name is film.
I found that sad. Was I meant to?
Yeah - it is really sad. Very good tho.
The Kiwi one is great too. Have you ever seen that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdUUx5FdySs&feature=related
Andy made me cry when he showed me this. When his wife appeared I said “this is going to make me cry” and Andy said “should I stop it?” It was already too late by then though so I just wept queitly through the rest of it. I’d like to blame it on the pregnancy hormones but most people will know they’re irrelevant, I would have cried just as much if I’d seen it this time last year.
I like the Mad World version of the Kiwi one…
Gloria - I cried buckets.
But then, that’s just what I do.
What is that piece of music called?
Yeah - the mad world one is good isn’t it. Not sure what the music is Kate.
We got a parcel this morning addressed to Amazon Hoyland (thanks, Mum). The postman was like “Amazon Hoyland, is it?” and looked at me like I was completely weird when I just said “yep, thanks very much”. If anyone else wants to post us stuff addressed to Amazon, I quite like the idea of the postman getting used to it.
Who sings ‘Mad World’? I absolutely love it.
Original by Tears for Fears, slow version by Gary Jules.
Or is that not the Mad World we’re talking about - I haven’t watched the clip!
Yeah - it’s that one. Gary Jules version. Didn’t Alex Park do a cover of it too?
I’ve lost a cheque for £72. This is not a good thing.
Also, when did you get a conservatory?!
I’ll tell you all about the conservatory soon. I need to get back onto it. Now, about the cheque… where did you lose it?
I can’t wait to see your house. I haven’t been for ages and I get the feeling its changed a lot. I just found the cheque. It was in the bank. It was hidden in a deposit with some cash as well so I didn’t recognise it. I also have no memory of paying it in but I knew I would have done so I was very confused. I am mighty relieved.
Er… it hasn’t changed A LOT but it has changed in terms of decoration and all that. Also - I have potatoe plants that I didn’t have before!
We don’t really have a conservatory… I was just playing a trick on the technician at work but it didn’t work as he has called in sick today.
That’s good news about the cheque.
I love the fact the Amazon Hoyland is receiving post, even before he/she is born! There must be some good jokes in there somewhere about the midwife delivering amazon. I am feeling to tired to make any kind of effort to think of it tho.
Susie, glad you found your cheque. I have not lost one, but I would very much like to find one, with my name on. I am not fussy about the amount.
I need your help everyone. I am looking for a job in Manchester. That’s about as much as I know. Seriously, would anyone be able to offer any advice on job hunting? I’m not qualified for much (I have a drama degree….). The internet is a big place and I just don’t know where to start. Also, I don’t know what half the jobs mean! I’m semi-considering doing a TEFL course so that I can go anywhere in the world should I want to (but I want to be in Manchester for a few years!). Its a useful thing to teach people. I want to do something useful. But its £1,000.
Pete, I’m sure if Gloria could wait an extra 3-5 days she could get free Super Saver delivery.
Just to go back to the original post, I watched the Kiwi video last night and it nearly made me cry, it was brilliant.
I don’t think she’d want delivery to take 3 - 5 days… I’m reckoning she’d pay extra for next hour delivery though… do Amazon do that yet?
On a similar note - today we got a parcel addressed to Mr, Mrs and Amazon Hoyland. I’m not going to feel quite so guilty about opening this one as it, at least, has my name on the packaging.
The one just addressed to Amazon - I still have guilt about opening it. Although, as Sian pointed out, I don’t think Amazon would appreciate the present when s/he could actually open it on their own. Thanks mum! The gift is brilliant.
Pete. I seem to remeber posting you a large cheque that never arrived. There is a cheque out there somewhere with your name on it for a large amount of money (I never cancelled it). If you can find it you can have it!
Susie. There’s some mentor jobs coming up at my work. Although I’d be your manager and would have to interview you. I don’t know if I’m allowed to do that!!!
I’m up for it if you’re allowed! I’ve always liked the sound of your job…
It would possibly mean you pretending that we’ve never met! I’ll tell you if and when it comes up. x
You wouldn’t need to pretend. Just be up front about it. There’s nothing wrong with interviewing someone you know - think of all the temp people who end up working for someone on a permanent basis. Just be honest about it all.
