Ross and Brand - a Reaction

Honestly - can you imagine it Ross from Friends and Jo Brand?  What would your reaction be?

In other news we went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park yesterday - it was cold.  And I don’t get sculpture.  I found myself more impressed by God’s creation than the sculptures.  I guess it’s uncultured or whatever to say I don’t get sculpture.  And I guess that’s a rather over the top statement - some sculpture impresses me… but mostly I just get the feeling that I’m missing something.  So I don’t enjoy it.  And that is surely the point - to appreciate or enjoy the art.  And I just don’t.  But I got some photos that I’ve uploaded to Flickr and Sian got to play with her new camera (thanks everyone!  Pete - we went with the 400D in the end - got a decent price and didn’t even have to buy online!) so maybe sometime you will see some photos taken with that.

Hope you’re all happy and well.

Perhaps another purpose of art is to stimulate thought?

Mind you, the kids from work were taken to the sculpture park as part of our summer holiday programme and their thoughts were unprintable on a good, decent, no-swearing blog like this.

I’m not a big sculpture fan. Especially modern sculpture. I know that it’s a broad generalisation, but all modern sculpture is rubbish.

I quite like impressive ancient sculptures, but mostly because it amazes me that they were able to do it with the limited tools they had. Some of the ancient Egyptian stuff is pretty darn spiffing.

Also… did you see that sculptor on the Dragon’s Den a bit ago. He got something like £200,000 pounds from them. He was on a special edition of the show where they showed you what happens after the show. This is how his ‘makes’ his sculptures…

He pays a guy in a warehouse to make a mould and then he (the guy he’s paid) melts down whatever material he chooses to use and pours it into the mould. Once it cools, there is your sculpture.

How can the artist say, “Here’s my sculpture”, when all he did was say “ooh… can I have it in blue please?”

Also… has anyone been watching the excellent “Dead Set” on e4?

Susie and I have been hooked. If you haven’t been watching it.. I’ll fill you in…

During the filming of big brother, on eviction night… zombies attack. Britain falls pretty quickly and the contestants (and a runner from the show) are left trapped in the Big Brother house. Hilariously, Davina is in it as herself and was killed and is now a zombie.

Anyhoo… last night, the zombie Davina met a grusome end. As she died, the bimbo BB contestant yelled: “You’ve killed Davina!!” It was hilarious, but Susie and myself couldn’t help but feel that this was probably the perfect time for the infamous line from Whitby 06:

    “EVICT THIS DAVINA!”

    I feel it’s a missed opportunity :(

Congrats on your new camera Sian! I am sure you will love it. The 400d is a good choice, not much different at all to the 450, but (as you found) much easier to get a good deal on. I am looking forward to seeing some of the results. Hummmm…sculpture…well, if you don’t get it, I don’t see why I should explain it to you. However, I will say that essentially, it is done by people who can’t paint, but can weld, and want to get paid millions of pounds for welding 2 bits of metal together. Thats how allot of it seems to me anyway.
