Qualification versus callin
I was thinking the other day, “Why is the development of Christian character a crucial element of Christian leadership as compared with acquisition of skill?”  Basically, you know, should working for a Christian ministry be about calling or qualification.
Ok. So I wasn’t actually thinking that. It’s the title of a friend’s assignment she has to do. Still. She needs an answer! Anyone?!

Andy-am I been thick? I can’t find the sign in link.
I think having the qualification is the calling. If you have a particular gift / talent, then do it! For example, all the stuff about women vicars. Surly, if I women has the right skills, knowledge and commitment to be a vicar, then why stop her?
(I am pro women vicars incase you didn’t notice).
So I went to Pat’s Panto on Saturday night, twas fantastic!
I arrived in York on Friday, which also happened to be my mums birthday (happy birthday Mum), so I celebrated with her that evening.
On Saturday I left for Stratford with Adam Rafel (for those of you who know him…and for those of you that don’t). 2.5 hours later we arrived in stratford, and met up with Pat after he had finished his matanet (I’ve got no idea how to spell that, neither does Firefox. The afternoon performance). We wen for a drink with him, then went to the evening show.
He was great, some fantastic guitar playing-including stairway to heaven and we will rock you. Some good singing by Mr B as well.
We had a drink with Pat after the show, and got back to york at around 1.30. Twas a fun time. Now I am back in Hull. I am feeling very unmotivated. This week is going to be very busy, but them after that I will have 4 very slack weeks! So I really can’t be bothered.
I think there’s a really good argument for both cases. All good things come from God - which includes our gifts and talents - and he wants us to work hard at developing these and using them for His glory. There is also the equally valid argument that God loves to use lowly people and raise them up. The bible is full of people who thought - “I couldn’t do that” and they God sends them to do amazing things (Esther, Moses and Isaiah are of particular note).
An important point to note is that as Christians we are all called to certain things (Evangelism & worship being two examples). You do find some Christians who think - “I won’t witness to my work colleagues because I haven’t been called to” - and the answer to that is “Read the Bible idiot!”. If you see a need - go and do it… and if God has given you a gift - use it in the right, Biblical way for his glory.
So as with all essay questions… the answer is the same…
“a little from column A and a little from column B”
Also - that was pretty much my answer - “Both can’t hurt”…
Sorry Pete - the sign in link has gone. It will be back soon. In the meantime you can login by just adding wp-admin to the end of my web address.
