Everybody’s doing a brand new dance now…

So, Andy gave me ‘Write Rights’ a week or so ago now and since then I’ve been trying to think of something witty, amusing or vaguely interesting to post about.
And here I was, sitting, pondering and Facebooking slightly when I heard a dull ‘boom’. It seemed to have come from the kitchen so I got up to investigate. As I walked in, the oven door was hanging open omniously, still gently swinging from the force of the blast.
The potato I was baking for my tea had exploded.
You’d be amazed how much mess an exploding potato can cause.
I’m not having a good day today.

Woohoo, I don’t get to be the first to comment very often!
Your exploding potato story made me laugh out loud. Luckily, it’s only 7:30am so there’s no-one else here yet! Did your dinner exploding give you an excuse to eat take-away instead?

Well, you see, that’s the thing - Tesco didn’t have any decent sized potatoes so I was cooking 2 small ones. Only one exploded so I really had to eat the other one. My dinner consisted of a small potato and a large amount of coleslaw and I was denied a takeaway. Darn.

Rubbish. I think I’d have “accidentally” dropped the other potato when getting it out of the oven and let it roll (by way of being kicked) under the oven, thereby making it inedible.
Liking your use of Kylie lyrics, by the way.

Spaghetti bolognese but with pasta shells instead of spaghetti, then you can fill the shells with the bolognese. Not that I do that, I’m not 8. Honest.

You could try baking a potato. Most people can manage to do that without causing small explosions.

Pete - come over to mine - I’m doing pasta with a bacon and veg sauce and garlic bread - already cooking for 6 so one more is no trouble. (So long as nothing explodes tonight).
Re. the Kylie lyrics - Andy instructed me that my first post title had to do with being new and be by someone Australian, this was the best I could do…

Thanks Kate, thats very kind of you. However, I am not sure I can get down south in time. Could you put some in the post so I can have it on saturday?
Strangly enough, I had already decided that I was going to cook some pasta and bacon type thing tonight.

I wanted to say something in relation to the last post but I never know if people read the old one anymore when someone has started a new one. Anyway - Andy, I would never feel cheated if you got me something off amazon as all I am going to ask for for Christmas is DVDs. I feel boring but I like films a lot and I don’t have much space for “things”. So DVDs are the best present ever in my book.
Today I bought an amazing Hummus and salad wrap from a place called wai kika moo kau. Its like being back in NZ. Just wanted to keep up the food conversation.

I bought a new widescreen TFT today for my pc. Well I bought a few days ago but it arrived today.
Is it sad that one of the first things i tried was the helicopter game, just to see if the extra bit of wideness helped in giving me warning that an impossible gap was there to try and get through?

No - it’s not sad. It’s ideal.
Or sad. I’m not sure.

Did it make a difference?
I still can’t get past 1400ish, are we sure that Laura isn’t making her score up?

I think bringing Laura’s integrity into question is a very risky move. I think it’s more likely that the rest of you are just rubbish.

I managed to get to just over 1900 on my old screen, but after that you just come up against stupidly small spaces

Oh and no, the game isnt designed for it, so it just cuts off on both sides.

I’m certain Laura isn’t lying. She told me that if it weren’t for that game she could have got a distinction in her art foundation course. Which I take to mean she has had a lot of practise, since at least 2003.

Craig - the game is random - it doesn’t get any harder - sometimes you get the stupidly small spaces really early on… sometimes you get them around 2500.
My high score is 2630 (I think) at the moment - I believe Laura got her high score… I think I was chatting to her on MSN at the time and she went quiet for a very long time!
And also - I don’t know if any cares or not but I thought it was time for another update on Amazon. I sent them a message telling them I would spend any more vouchers they sent me. They replied:
I want to send them another email saying something along the lines of:
I love this!

Spend them quick! It’s not immoral because they’re a gift! You’ve told them, and they keep giving them to you! It’s not like Amazon is a single mother on the breadline, they won’t even notice!
Actually, are you sure someone isn’t actually sending them to you as a gift? I mentioned to Lucy about this and she said that one of her friends is obsessed with Oprah Winfrey and she suddenly started receiving the Oprah magazine. She thought someone at Oprah had noticed she was on the site a lot and began sending it to her. Shortly after this their friend who lives in Australia asked her if she had received her birthday present yet, but wouldn’t tell her what it was. She said no. This went on for about 6 months (you can see where this is headed), and eventually she asked what her present was supposed to be, and it was the Oprah magazines!

Damn it, my philanthrophy has been discovered despite my attempts to conceal it with extreme selfishness.
I thought I’d been so devious, roping Amazon in and everything…
