Always look on the bright side of life

Wow, I’ve only ever posted once and its been so long I’m nervous all over again. Last time it was about a dead dolphin I think.

Anyway, at the weekend I went to London with Ros and the cousins, Maddy and Louise. On the way to London they all decided to text 118 118 asking what time the show we were going to see started. You can text 118 118 anything and they answer. The girls then decided to ask what the Queen’s corgis are called. 118 118 replied. I was relaying this phenomenon to some friends today and we were wondering how deep a question 118 118 would answer. We opted for the biggest question of them all: what is the meaning of life? Sure enough within 3 minutes I had a text to my phone saying this:

“The meaning of life is many things to many people, amongst them are happiness, love, wisdom, understanding and 42. It’s also a film by the Monty Python Team!”

So there. Wonder no more.

That’s brilliant. Could you ask where my wallet is as I need my drivers license? I would ask myself but I’ve lost my wallet so don’t have my bank card that I need in order to top up…

I wonder what they’d say to stuff like that.

Also, I meant to add to my post, everyone go and see Juno. Its BRILLIANT. I actually feel a bit scared saying that with Jonny and Carolyn The Film Experts reading, but who cares. In my opinion, its a top film. And the soundtrack is awesome. I’m gonna download it off iTunes at the end of my hellish 2 weeks that are about to start, as a reward….or maybe I’ll get it now to help me through the 2 weeks…

Hi Susie, good to see you posting again!

You know the BBC David attenbrough program, ‘life in cold blood’? Well if you go to this page http://open2.net/lifeincoldblood/poster.html you can order a free poster from it! How cool is that! No catches, it really is free. Ive just ordered mine

  4. Carolyn says:

Juno IS brilliant Susie! I agree, fear not. x

  5. Susie says:

I can’t stop thinking about it! I wanna see it again. I was thinking I could see it again because I was expecting to pay but when we got there someone we know was on box office and let us in for free….so that justifies spending money on the same film. However, I used that excuse to download the soundtrack, so I might have to wait for the DVD.

I’m very bored in work today. It’s half term and no students are in schools or college so i’m just sat in my office bored with no one to mentor. Also I can’t get on facebook, myspace, hotmail, games or anythng with any sexual content on work’s computers. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do??!!

  7. Jonny Evans says:

    Hi Susie,

Juno is fantastico (official film expert language).

Carolyn… I’m glad you can’t get on facebook at work… because that would stop me logging in with your password and pretending to be you

    haha

  8. Kate says:

I’m going to see Juno tonight. Very much looking forward to it.

  9. Jonny Evans says:

It’s great. I’d recommend “No country for Old Men”… it’s absolutely brilliant (genius even)…

  10. Susie says:

I wanna see that too. Has anyone else noticed how the 2008 is looking to be a very good film year? It is.

  11. Gloria says:

Andy, now our replacement Cineworld cards are arrived (they were in Andy’s wallet…), we have LOTS of catching up to do. Want to skive work tomorrow and spend the day at the cinema?

  12. Susie says:

why did i say “the 2008″…?

  13. Mat says:

Juno IS brilliant! I know everyone else has already said so, but I’m just agreeing as well. I wanted to go and watch it again as soon as I came out from seeing it. Juno is one of the coolest movie characters for a long time, and both Ellen Page (she’s got a proper film star name) and Michael Cera were perfect.

I too have the Cineworld unlimited card, and I think I’m going to go and watch it again. It’s the first film I’ve felt like that about for ages. And the soundtrack rocks.

Sorry to stick a comment in here that’s not about films, 118118 or the meaning of life, but I just read this and want Kate’s opinion on it. Posting on the blog is cheaper than texting.

There’s a story on the BBC website about what to feed children when they’re weaning (basically. it goes on a bit, but that’s basically what it’s about) and someone has commented that “six-month old babies can feed themselves”. Now, I know I don’t actually have a baby so have no personal experience, but I’ve had a lot of experience of my best friend’s baby (who is now 9 months old) and he can’t feed himself properly now, never mind 3 months ago. Does this woman have the most advanced baby in the world, do you think?

  15. Susie says:

Mat, I wanted to go see it straight away again too!

  16. Kate says:

Glor, you’re probably asking the wrong person because I know naff-all about any baby over the age of 10 days but obviously, I do have an opinion on this….

Current thinking is that babies shouldn’t be fed the total mush that most people give them, instead they should be given soft foods that they can pick up for themselves. It helps them to develop hand/eye coordination and apparently helps stop fussy eating later in life - or something - I’m not entirely clear!!
I don’t really know the capabilities of small children but I think if they can hold a spoon then they should be encouraged to - although they are probably often fed because it’s quicker - like 5 year olds being unable to tie shoelaces because their parents don’t wait for them to do it themselves, they do it for them. Things like bread, I would have thought they could pick up and eat.
Like I say, I don’t really know but I figure that you can parent however you like no matter what ‘professionals’ say. It’s like we give advice to women but we don’t know what they do when we leave!!

(And yes, she probably did have a superbaby - I expect he’s at Oxford by now…)

  17. Jonny Evans says:

    Heya..

My nephew is almost 6 months - in a couple of weeks. He can’t exactly feed himself.. but he does grab the spoon and yank it towards his mouth. There is no way a 6 month baby can pick up a spoon, accurately put it into a bowl, scoop up the food and then put it in his mouth and repeat as required. I sure wouldn’t like to clean up that mess! haha

  18. Pete says:

To be honest I still sometimes find it difficult to coordinate my eating with out getting food all over my mouth and shirt, and I am 21! I am fairly good at patting my head and rubbing my tummy (and vice versa) tho.
